The Synaxarium reading for Moses the Prophet
On this day, the righteous Moses, the chief of the prophets, departed. He labored with the people of God even unto death and was willing to offer himself for their sake.
He performed signs and wonders in Egypt and at the Red Sea. He refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, who had raised him after his parents had placed him by the riverbank out of fear of Pharaoh, who had commanded that the male children of the Hebrews be killed. When Pharaoh’s daughter found him in the river, she took him and raised him as her own son.
