The Synaxarium reading for Ruth
Ruth was a woman of Moab who was married to one of the sons of Naomi, an Israelite woman. After Naomi’s husband and her two sons died, she decided to return to the land of Judah. She told her daughters-in-law to remain in their own country, but Ruth refused to leave her.
Ruth said to Naomi, “Wherever you go, I will go; and wherever you lodge, I will lodge; your people shall be my people, and your God, my God.” So Ruth left her country and went with Naomi to Bethlehem, choosing to worship the God of Israel and to remain faithful to her mother-in-law.
